CARLISLE, Pa. - The Gallaudet University women's indoor track and field team competed here Saturday in the DuCharme Invitational hosted by Dickinson College.
Senior Shellane McKitty (Yonkers, N.Y.) was Gallaudet's top finisher once more. McKitty's best finish came as she placed 10th out of 29 runners in the 400-meter dash. She crossed the finish line in one minute, 7.27 seconds, just three tenths of a second away from scoring team points for the Bison.
McKitty sprinted to a 18th-place finish in the 55-meter dash with a time 8.08 seconds.
Freshmen Courtney Langford and Anyia Brown (Wilmington, Del.) also competed in the 55-meter dash, crossed the finish line just a few tenths of a second after McKitty. Langford finished in 30th place (8.72) followed by Brown in 31st place (8.75).
Later on in the meet, McKitty, Langford, Brown were joined by sophomore Saria Webb (Duncanville, Texas) in the 4x200 meter relay where they placed ninth (2:04.94).
The Bison didn't have enough finishers to earn any team points. The host Red Devils won the meet with 170 team points followed by Messiah College (103) and Gettysburg College (62).
- In the 200-meter dash, Brown placed 19th (31.58), Langford placed 21st (31.71) and sophomore Karina Mitchell placed 34th (36.89) out of 34 runners
- Mitchell went on to compete in the 55-meter hurdles crossing the finish line in 12.13 seconds (55th overall)
- Junior long-distance runner Nicole Musey (Prince George, British Colombia) placed 19th in the 3,000-meter run (13:10.32)
The Bison will travel back to Selinsgrove, Pa., on Saturday, Feb. 18, to participate in the SU Invitational hosted by Susquehanna University. The events will start at 9:30 a.m.
