Bison make outdoor season debut at Lloyd Sigler Spring Meet

SALISBURY Md. - The Gallaudet University women's track and field team participated in their first outdoor meet of the 2017 season here Saturday when they competed in the Lloyd Sigler Spring Meet hosted by Salisbury University. The Bison braved the cold and windy conditions and finished fourth overall out of six teams with 34 team points.

Senior sprinter Shellane McKitty (Yonkers, N.Y.) led the Bison with several great finishes on the day. McKitty finished third in the 100-meter dash as she crossed the finish line in 14.43 seconds. She was fourth in the 200- and 400-meter dash with times of 30.28 and 1:07.69, respectively.

A trio of Bison were close behind McKitty in the 100-meter dash including freshman sprinter Courtney Langford (Chicago, Ill.) in fourth place (15.05), senior Melissa Mischo (Salt Lake City, Utah) in fifth (15.49) and freshman Anyia Brown (Wilmington, Del.) in sixth (15.54).

Langford was ninth in the 200-meter dash as she crossed the line in 31.06 seconds.

Sophomore Karina Mitchell (Las Cruces, N.M.) was third in the 100-meter hurdles as she finished in 22.01 seconds.

The host Sea Gulls won the meet with 267 points followed by Christopher Newport University (152) and Howard Community College (54). The Bison were in front of Rowan College at Gloucester County (11) and Tiffin University (10) from Ohio had one thrower.

BISON TRACKS

  • Brown and Mischo were 11th (32.83) and 12th (32.88), respectively, in the 200-meter dash
  • Junior long-distance runner Nicole Musey (Prince George, British Columbia) was 20th in the 1,500-meter run (7:07.28)
  • Senior Ivy Sahneyah (First Mesa, Ariz.) was 21st in the 1,500-meter run (7:57.41)
  • Junior Abby Courtemanche (Southbridge, Mass.) was ninth in the shot put with a toss of 5.68 meters (18 feet, 7.75 inches)

Gallaudet will take the next two weeks off for Spring Break before getting back into the outdoor schedule on Saturday, March 25, in Towson, Md., at the Goucher Classic.
