Gallaudet Defeats York in 5 Sets

Gallaudet defeated York College in a five set thriller 25-19, 17-25, 18-25, 25-11, 15-9 before hundreds of screaming fans in the Gallaudet Field House.  The game began with an ace by Junior Amy Seibert (Oakdale, MN/Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf). Throughout the first game, Gallaudet led most of the way before losing 19-25. Junior Justine Jeter (Noblesville, IN/Indiana School for the Deaf) led the team in the first game with 4 kills (she finished with 14 kills leading the Bison) to finish York 25-19.  

After a solid first game, Gallaudet loss the second one 17-25, despite spectacular plays from several players. The third game went to York as well with a score of 18-25. Senior Brittany Ellenbecker (St. Joseph's, MN/Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf) held the team together with 13 digs and her leadership was exactly what the ladies needed heading into the fourth game of the match.  

The bison roared to a 6-1 start and never looked back. Junior Amanda Krieger (Carmel, IN/Indiana School for the Deaf) continued to find kills here and there totaling 11 kills for the game as well as 13 digs.  Senior Katelyn Reese (San Jose, CA/Gunn) had fun blocking York’s hits, totaling 4 solo blocks for the night. Freshman Paige Johnson (N. Richland Hills, TX/ Texas School for the Deaf) found her hitters where she wanted them to be and was able to dish out 35 assists for the match. The fans were fired up and every point the Bison won, their jubilation shook the Fieldhouse rafters. Johnson kept her cool and took control of the floor, which brought Gallaudet the win, 25-11, to send the match into a fifth and deciding game. 

In the fifth game Gallaudet fans were screaming from the top of their lungs, giving Gallaudet inspiration. Neither team was able to pull away from the other but Gallaudet stayed ahead. The margin never was more than 3 points until Jeter had an ace to put the game away at 14-9. Gallaudet then won by a York hitting error at 15-9.
