Gallaudet earns No. 2 seed in ECAC Division III South Volleyball Championship, will host Wednesday night

CAPE COD, Mass. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced the fields of its Division III women's volleyball championships on Monday and Gallaudet University was awarded the No. 2 seed in the 2009 ECAC South Volleyball Championship. The Bison (24-14) will host No. 7 seed Pittsburgh-Bradford (18-5) on Wednesday, November 11, at the Field House with the match slated to start at 8 p.m.
The Gallaudet-Pittsburgh-Bradford winner will advance to Saturday, November 14, and the semifinal round at the site of the highest remaining seed. The other first round matchups feature No. 1 DeSales (21-8) vs. No. 8 Penn State-Altoona (17-14); No. 3 Widener (21-15) vs. No. 6 Swarthmore (19-10) and No. 4 Penn State-Behrend (22-10) vs. No. 5 St. Vincent (22-10). The first semifinal will feature DeSales/Penn St.-Altoona winner vs. Penn St.-Behrend/St. Vincent winner and the second semifinal will pit the Gallaudet/Pitt-Bradford winner vs. Widener/Swarthmore winner. The championship match will follow after the completion of the semifinal matches.
Gallaudet enters the ECAC postseason after it reached the Capital Athletic Conference championship match and finished third during the regular-season. Pitt-Bradford hails from the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference and advanced to its conference semifinal round after it clinched third-place during the regular-season.
Last year, Penn State-Behrend won the ECAC South Volleyball Championship as a No. 3 seed and Widener reached the semifinal round as a No. 2 seed. Of the teams in this year's South Region only Penn State-Behrend has won an ECAC Division III Volleyball Championship dating back to 1983. St. Vincent won back-to-back ECAC Division II Volleyball Championships in 2006, '07 before moving up to Division III.
