Bison drop tough match to Catholic, 3-1
WASHINGTON, D.C. - It was a short trip across town for the Gallaudet University volleyball team on Wednesday night as the Bison faced Catholic University of America (23-9) at the DuFour Center. The Bison lost 3-1 after GU (20-11) won the first set but dropped the match to the Cardinals; 25-23, 21-25, 22-25, 20-25.
Senior Amanda Krieger (Carmel, Ind.) and freshman Ann Whited (Fishers, Ind.) led the Buff and Blue with 14 kills each. Krieger added digs and Whited tallied 11 digs. Senior Justine Jeter (Noblesville, Ind.) made a team-high 21 digs to go with seven kills. Sophomore Paige Johnson (North Richland Hills, Texas) passed out 34 assists, made 10 digs and a team best four service aces and four kills. Gallaudet was without the service of senior libero Shana Lehmann (Frederick, Md.). Freshman Mari Klassen (British Columbia, Canada) added three service aces, four kills and six digs.
The Bison will travel to St. Mary's City, Md., on Friday, October 30, to participate in the Seahawk Invitational hosted by St. Mary's (Md.) College. Gallaudet will face No. 23 Eastern University and Washington & Lee University on Friday followed by two matches against Bridgewater (Va.) College and CCNY on Saturday.
