GU's Jessica Israel earns third NEAC Women's Volleyball Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week award

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) released its conference awards for the week of October 24, and Gallaudet University women's volleyball player Jessica Israel (Frederick, Md.) was honored as the NEAC Women's Volleyball Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week for her quality play at the net. This is the third time Israel has been honored this season by the NEAC.

The junior middle hitter was a force up front for the Bison in the team's lone match of the week. Israel registered seven total blocks (one solo, six assisted) in the four-set win over University of Mary Washington this past Thursday (October 20) in a key non-conference match. She also smashed six kills on 11 attempts (.545 hitting percentage) in the victory. She ranks 15th in Division III for hitting percentage (.391) and is tops in the conference. Israel is also the leader in the NEAC for blocks.

This is the fifth NEAC weekly honor this season for GU volleyball. The Bison swept the awards on October 10 with Israel and junior outside hitter Ann Whited (Fishers, Ind.) and on September 6 with Israel and freshman Kali Frowick (Norfolk, Neb.).

The Bison home regular-season schedule has concluded but there are still three road games to go this week to close out the regular-season. The Buff and Blue will next make the short trip over to Catholic University of America tonight (Wednesday, October 26), for a 7 p.m. non-conference match with the Cardinals.
