Gallaudet's Jessica Israel earns third NEAC Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week award, Frowick picks up her second honor

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its weekly conference student-athlete of the week awards for Oct. 29 and the Gallaudet University women's volleyball team earned two more awards to close out the regular season. Senior middle hitter Jessica Israel (Frederick, Md.) earned the Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week award and sophomore outside hitter Kali Frowick (Norfolk, Neb.) was named Student-Athlete of the Week as the Bison finished the week with a perfect 3-0 record.

The award is Israel's third of the season as the senior middle hitter came up with 14 blocks (three solo, 11 assisted) during the three victories. Israel also brought some offense at the net, as she tallied 35 kills and a hitting percentage of .417 (35-5-72); she leads the conference in this category with a .418 hitting percentage on the season. Israel has been honored for her defensive play by the NEAC on Sept. 10 and Oct. 1.

Frowick's award marks the second time she has been honored by the NEAC this season as the standout sophomore racked up 48 kills (4.8 k/set), 45 digs (4.5 d/set), three assists, two service aces and three assisted blocks in 10 sets for 51.5 points (5.2 p/set). Frowick had a kills-dig double-double in all three matches and finished the week with a hitting percentage of .355. Frowick was previously honored on Oct. 8.

Gallaudet has earned seven NEAC Women's Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Week awards this season. The Bison have had one recipient or more for six of the eight weeks the awards have been handed out. Senior outside hitter Ann Whited (Fishers, Ind.) has been honored on Sept. 17 and Oct. 22.

The team is currently riding a seven-game winning streak as they head into this weekend's NEAC women's volleyball championship tournament as the host and top seed. The tournament kicks off on Friday, Nov. 2 with the quarterfinal matches before the Bison take the court on Saturday, Nov. 3 for the semifinals.
