
WASHINGTON - After it dropped the first set, Gallaudet University came back to sweep the next sets and defeat Penn St.-Abington, 3-1, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division women's volleyball showdown here Friday night. The Bison were decked out in their pink uniforms as they participated in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Dig Pink Night to raise awareness and funds for cancer research.
Gallaudet (12-12, 4-2 NEAC) bounced back from a 20-25 first set loss to win a tight second set by five points, 25-20, before putting away Penn St.-Abington (9-12, 3-2 NEAC) in the third and fourth sets, 25-10 and 25-17. The win snaps a three-match losing streak for the Bison, who enter a critical conference weekend in the Field House.
Senior outside hitter Darriyan Thomas (Vallejo, Calif.) led the Bison with 13 kills, 10 digs and a career best eight service aces. Sophomore Adele Daniels (Austin, Texas) added nine kills, 16 assists, four digs, three aces and two block assists in the win.
The Bison had a season-high 19 aces in the win. Freshman Brynn Schmidt (Bozeman, Mont.) served up four aces to go with two block assists and three kills.
Penn St.-Abington was led by Cori Watson's eight kills, nine digs, 13 assists and two aces.

- Freshman setter Kameron Kinast (Austin, Texas) passed out 20 assists
- Junior libero Raelyn Fuechtmann (South St. Paul, Minn.) made 17 digs, recorded two aces and two assists
- Sophomore Farrah Harmount (Union City, Calif.) made 11 digs
- Freshman Karita Lewis (Frederick, Md.) was tied for second on the team with nine kills

Gallaudet will host a NEAC Crossover Day tomorrow (Saturday, Oct. 14) as six matches will be played on two courts throughout the day. Matches are scheduled to start at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The Bison will face SUNY Poly (6-11, 3-2 NEAC) at 11 a.m. and SUNY Cobleskill (6-10, 1-4 NEAC) at 3 p.m. on Court 1.
