Ritz places 89th overall at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Gallaudet University junior Rose Ritz (Wauwatosa, Wis.) finished 89th overall out of 189 runners on Saturday at the 2009 NCAA Division III South/Southeast Women's Cross Country Regional hosted by Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C. Ritz finished the 6,000-meter run at The Meadows Cross Country Course with a time of 27:06. Ritz was the lone runner from Gallaudet who qualified last week at the Capital Athletic Conference championship to run today at the NCAA regional.
Trinity (Texas) junior Caitlin Masse won the race as she crossed the finish line with a time of 22:56. University of Mary Washington was another CAC team at the regional as the Eagles finished 11th overall as a team out of 27 teams with 322 points. CAC Athlete of the Year Sara Dawes finished 36th overall with a time of 25:17. Three Eagles crossed the finish line before Ritz but the Bison runner beat out UMW's Mara Cate, who finished 91st overall with a time of 27:09.
Rhodes won the team event with 35 points as it had runners finish second, third, fourth, eighth and 18th overall. Emory was second with 100 team points and Christopher Newport University rounds out the top three with 135 points. Catholic University of America, nearby neighbor to Gallaudet, was ninth overall with 283 points.
