WALKERSVILLE, Md. - A pair of Gallaudet University women's cross country runners competed in the third annual Hood College Open on a wet and cold Saturday at Heritage Farm Park.
Freshman Amy Bachtel (Columbus, Ohio) led the way for the Buff and Blue as she finished 58th overall out of 110 runners. Bachtel improved on her career best time as she finished the 6,000-meter course in 30 minutes and six seconds. Junior Kirsten Swanson (Grapevine, Texas) was the other Bison to compete on a frigid day as she finished 85th overall (33:32). Gallaudet needed three more runners to accumulate team points.
Catholic University of America won the team event with 49 points. Shenandoah freshman Roni Frye won the race in 24 minutes and 40 seconds.
The race was a great preview for the 2009 Capital Athletic Conference championships that Hood is hosting on Saturday, November 7. Gallaudet is off until the CAC championships.
