Gallaudet women's cross country races with top regional programs

NEWVILLE, Pa. – The Gallaudet University women’s cross country team finished 23rd overall at the Dickinson Long-Short Invitational at Big Spring High School on Saturday. The Bison ran in the short course and accumulated 283 team points as the top three finishers from each team qualified for team points.

The invitational was deep as 23 teams, 167 runners, ran in the short course competition and featured many of the top cross country teams in the Atlantic, Mideast and South/Southeast Regions.

Dickinson, ranked second in the Mideast Region, won the short course competition with 26 points followed by Muhlenberg, ranked eighth in the region, with 31 points and Johns Hopkins University, the top team from the Mideast, with 41 points. Moravian runner Cadee Rockwell won the 4,000-meter race in 15 minutes, 18 seconds.

Gallaudet’s top finisher, for a third straight week, was sophomore Shadoe Williamson (Austin, Texas) who finished 134th overall but in 89th place for team points with a time of 20 minutes, 16 seconds. Sophomore Radoslava Slavova (Scranton, Pa.) followed in 145th place overall (20:57). Newcomer junior Chelsie Stallings (Sulphur, Okla.) had a nice debut as she crossed the finish line in 21:33 (149th overall). Freshman Payal Sharmacharya (Olathe, Kan.), senior Olivia Malcolm (St. Augustine, Fla.) and freshman Rachel Young (Leesburg, Va.) took three of the final four spots as the trio finished in under 25 minutes and 34 seconds.

Johns Hopkins won the 6,000-meter long course race with 25 team points, once again the top three finishers from each team qualified for team points. Haverford, ranked third in the Mideast Region, and Rowan, ranked fifth in the Atlantic Region, followed the Blue Jays. Gallaudet did not compete in the long course race. Dickinson won the overall combined long and short course races with 62 combined points followed by Johns Hopkins (66 points) and Haverford (71).

Gallaudet is off next weekend and will next compete at the DeSales Invitational in Center Valley, Pa., on October 8, at 10:30 a.m.
