CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Gallaudet University finished 16th overall out of 20 teams at the DeSales Invitational on Saturday as the Bison women’s cross country team accumulated 464 points. DeSales won the meet with 47 points as it’s top three runners finished in the Top 8 spots. Philadelphia University was second overall with 73 points followed by Oswego State (91 points), Franklin & Marshall (105) and Gloucester County College (170) round out the top five teams. Sheena Crawley from Franklin & Marshall won the 6K race in 22 minutes, 57 seconds.
Sophomore Lindsey Corthell (Orlando, Fla.) was the top Gallaudet runner as she finished the course in 27 minutes, 29 seconds to place 63rd overall. Freshman Nicole Musey (Prince George, British Columbia) was the next Bison to cross the finish line when she finished 118th overall (29:46) followed by a pack of Gallaudet runners. Junior Radoslava Slavova (Scranton, Pa.) was the third Bison to finish 144th overall (31:11). Junior Shadoe Williamson (Austin, Texas) and freshman Jill Schellekens (Vancouver, British Columbia) placed 146th (31:26) and 147th (31:28), respectively. Sophomore Rachel Young (Leesburg, Va.) was right behind the trio in 149th place (31:45).
Sophomore Whitney James (Salt Lake City, Utah) finished 168th overall (33:45) and was followed by teammates Payal Sharmacharya (Olathe, Kan.) in 180th place (39:47) and senior Olivia Malcolm (St. Augustine, Fla.) was 185th (46:15) out of 185 runners to finish.
Gallaudet is next slated to participate in the Hood College Open Meet on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 11 a.m. in Thurmont, Md., in the final tune-up before the North Eastern Athletic Conference championships.
