Gallaudet women's cross country finishes fourth at Green Terror Invitational

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Gallaudet University women’s cross country team attacked the hilly McDaniel College course on Saturday and finished fourth out of six teams in the Green Terror Invitational. GU accumulated 72 points as it had three runners in the top 26 places.

Sophomore Lindsey Corthell (Orlando, Fla.) finished in the Top 10 as she completed the 5K course in 23 minutes, 18 seconds to place eighth overall. Seton Hill’s Jeannine Bujdos won the race with a time of 19:33.

Freshman Jill Schellekens (Vancouver, British Columbia) was the next Bison to cross the finish line in 23rd place (27:09) followed by sophomore Rachel Young (Lessburg, Va.) in 26th place (27:38). Just inside the Top 30 was junior Shadoe Williamson (Austin, Texas) in 29th place (28:25). Freshman Nicole Musey (Prince George, British Columbia) was the fifth runner to finish the race for the Bison as her time of 29:05 placed her 32nd overall. Two sophomores were the final Bison to complete the course as Whitney James (Salt Lake City, Utah) finished 39th Gallaudet's cross country teams overall (31:01) and sophomore Payal Sharmacharya (Olathe, Kan.) never gave up as her teammates cheered her on as she finished 45th (36:57).

Seton Hill ran away with the team award as its five runners finished in the top seven spots for 10 points. McDaniel was second with 41 points followed by Hagerstown Junior College (44 points), Gallaudet, McDaniel Alumni (85 points) and Anne Arundel Community College (90 points).

Corthell later ran in the women’s 3K race and placed seventh overall as she finished the shorten course in 12 minutes, 42 seconds. Bujdos won the 3K a minute before Corthell as she crossed in 11:24. GU junior Radoslava Slavova (Scranton, Pa.) also ran in the 3K race.

Gallaudet will next participate in the Penn St.-Abington Invitational at Lorimer Park, Pa., on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 9 a.m.
