Stern was named the Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) for Athletics in May 2017. He is a faculty member in the Department of Government and Public Affairs at Gallaudet.
Before teaching full-time at Gallaudet, Stern was the 2014-15 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year as he led the Bison to an 18-7 record and 14-4 conference mark. Led by their nationally ranked defense, the team set a new school record for wins, conference wins, and consecutive wins. Prior to coaching men’s basketball for three years, he was the women’s basketball head coach in 2011-12, and assistant coach for men’s basketball from 2008 to 2011. He also served as the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Advisor and Deputy Title IX Coordinator for Athletics.
Stern, who is deaf, played four years for the Bison men's basketball program where he was a three-time captain. He graduated summa cum laude from GU in 2006 and since then has earned master degrees from American University and Catholic University of America. He is currently working on his Ph.D. in American Politics at CUA. Stern has been teaching American Politics at Gallaudet University for the past 10 years.
Stern resides in the Brookland neighborhood in Washington, D.C., with Dana Sipek and their daughter, Mahalia.
