GU SAAC leaders participate in NEAC retreat, service project

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Gallaudet University Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) sent two of its members and advisor to Wilson College on Sunday, April 11, to participate in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) SAAC retreat. Gallaudet SAAC President Carlisle Robinson (Carmel, Ind.), a junior on the women’s swimming team, and freshman cross country and track and field runner Richard Camacho (Medford, Ore.) attended along with SAAC Advisor Sarah Gumina, women’s soccer coach.

Gallaudet will officially join the NEAC this summer after spending the past 20 years in the Capital Athletic Conference where the Bison were one of the charter members back in 1989.

At the NEAC SAAC retreat Gallaudet joined three other Southern members of the conference including Penn St.-Abington, College of St. Elizabeth and the hosts from Wilson. Penn St.-Harrisburg and Lancaster Bible College were not in attendance. The NEAC has 13 members.

The agenda for the NEAC SAAC retreat included a review of the strategic plan, electing new officers, team building exercises and a two-hour service project where members helped to pick-up trash on a local “Rail to Trail” area.

“It was good to get our foot in the door and see what the NEAC SAAC has to offer and how we can be a valuable contributor to it,” said Gumina.
