WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University Athletics Department has announced the two recipients for the Bison of the Month award presented by Gallaudet Interpreting Services (GIS) for December. Senior men’s swimmer DJ Everton-Lovell (Norfolk, Va.) and women’s basketball senior forward Lindsay Stergio (Montville, Conn.) were selected for their exceptional performances as Bison student-athletes.
Everton-Lovell helped to lead the Gallaudet men’s swimming team to its first two wins of the 2013-14 season as the Bison swept defending North Eastern Athletic Conference champion Wells College, 119-72, and Ferrum, 123-61. The senior leader won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:21.95 and he touched the wall first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.26). He closed out senior day with a second place performance in the 1,000-yard freestyle as he surpassed 12 minutes with 12:02.55. This is his second Bison of the Month honor as he was last selected December 2011.
Stergio averaged 22.3 points per game and 10.7 rebounds per game in three games played in December. The senior co-captain helped the Bison to a 2-1 record in the three games played as the Bison completed the first half of the season with a 5-4 record. She scored 18 points and grabbed 14 rebounds on Dec. 6 on the first day of the GU Holiday Tournament in a 75-70 loss to Lehman. She bounced back with a 25 point performance and brought down nine rebounds and passed out two assists in a 87-34 win over Valley Forge Christian College in the consolation game on Dec. 7. Stergio closed out the month with a 24-point performance against Goucher College on Dec. 14 where she added nine rebounds and three assists in a 62-43 victory. This is the second time she has earned Bison of the Month honors, she was selected last January 2013.
