Gallaudet athletics officially retires its first two numbers in school history

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University athletics department paid homage and officially retired the numbers of two Athletics Hall of Famers on Saturday, Feb. 8, as women's basketball All-American Ronda Jo Miller, '01, had her #23 jersey retired and men's basketball standout Kevin Milligan, '67, had his #24 jersey officially retired. Milligan's number was retired years ago but was never officially recognized.

Miller and Milligan were the guests of honor at a ceremonial brunch held earlier in the day at the Peikoff Alumni House in the "Ole Jim" as former coaches and teammates shared stories and memories with a sold out crowd of 80 people in attendance. GU Athletic Director Michael Weinstock served as the master of ceremonies as many people gave different speeches. Gallaudet President Dr. T. Alan Hurwitz welcomed the guests gathered for the special occasion and offered thanks and gratitude to Miller and Milligan for their athletic accomplishments as Bison student-athletes.

Milligan was presented by his former teammate Dr. Harvey Goodstein and coach William Schyman.

"Gallaudet has always been an important part of my life. I am so honored and humbled that you chose me to retire my jersey," said Milligan. "This day goes to my family, thank you to them."

Miller was presented by her former teammate Touria Ouahid Boren and coach Kitty Baldridge.

"This is a really big honor for me to be here today and to see my number retired," said Miller at the ceremony. "I hated being in the spotlight, without my teammates I wouldn't of had all of those statistics and accomplishments."
