WASHINGTON – Gallaudet University Atlhletic Director Michael Weinstock presented Thursday morning in the Field House about Bison Athletics: Then and Now as part of the 150th Reunion Week taking place on Kendall Green.
Weinstock showed the gathered audience, many of them alumni, pictures of what the old athletic facilities looked like and how these facilities have changed and improved over time. The presentation started with a quick video showing GU athletics over the years. Weinstock discussed the change to the current GU Bison athletic logo that took place six years ago. Weinstock showed how the recent success by many of Gallaudet’s athletic teams has led to national media exposure for the athletic department and the University. The improvement in the athletic facilities, the increase of staffing and national media exposure has made an immediate impact in recruiting future Bison student-athletes.
The presentation concluded with a lively question and answer session. During this time, Weinstock officially introduced the University’s new mascot, Gally. The old Bison mascot costume was dated and very worn, so a new design with a more modern design with a fierce and strong look was created. Gally was a big hit with those in attendance as many waited to get their photos with Gally after the session concluded.
