Anastasia Murray and Otto Kingstedt named October Bison of the Month presented by GIS

WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University Athletics Department has announced the October Bison of the Month recipients presented by Gallaudet Interpreting Services (GIS). Sophomore forward Anastasia Murray (Raleigh, N.C.) of the women’s soccer team and freshman men's cross country runner Otto Kingstedt (Stockholm, Sweden) were selected for their dominating performances on and off the field of play.

The Bison women's soccer team had nine games in the month of October and won their third game of the season against Christendom College. Murray took 28 shots and scored five goals, one in the 2-0 victory over Christendom, and two against both Morrisville St. and SUNY Cobleskill, the only goals the Bison scored in both games. Murray is in the top 20 for shots taken in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) with 46 and a .196 shot percentage and .522 percentage for shots on goal.

"Anastasia scored five of her nine goals in October. She fought through injuries and was determined to finish the season with a strong showing," said Gallaudet women's soccer coach Liza Offreda. "She deserves recognition for her hard work and I am very proud of her accomplishments this season and the support of the whole team who fought alongside her."
The men’s cross country team competed in four races during the month of October, including the NEAC championship meet, in which Kingstedt won all four of them. This earned Kingstedt the titles of 2015 NEAC Men’s Runner of the Year, NEAC Men's Rookie of the Year, and an all-conference first team selection. This is in addition to his three NEAC Men’s Cross Country runner of the Week awards for October, six for the season. Two of Kingstedt's four fastest times of the season, all ranked in Gallaudet's Top 10 for 8K times, came in October.

These are the second Bison of the Month awards for the 2015-16 athletic seasons. Each month the Gallaudet University Athletics Department will recognize two standout student-athletes (one male, one female) from their respective sports. Previous winners include the month of September; senior setter TraciAnn Hoglind (Fishers, Ind.) and Kingstedt.
