WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University Athletics Department has announced the December Bison of the Month recipients presented by Gallaudet Interpreting Services (GIS). Junior forward/guard Hannah Neild (Litchfield, N.H.) of the women’s basketball team and senior forward Andy Cruz (Bronx, N.Y.) of the men’s basketball team were selected for the exceptional performances during the month of December.

Neild totaled 143 points, 60 rebounds, 26 steals and 17 assists in seven starts where she logged 263 minutes. She finished the month with back-to-back double-doubles. She scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds at Catholic University of America on Dec. 16. The junior transfer followed that performance with 28 points and 13 rebounds against St. Mary’s (Md.) College. Neild averaged 20.4 points, 8.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. Neild continues to be a strong leader on the women’s basketball team thanks to her stellar performances in December.

Cruz proved a formidable player for the men’s basketball team, as he scored 116 points in five starts where he logged 187 minutes. Cruz averaged 23.2 points per game and shot 53.1 percent from the field. Cruz recorded two double-doubles for points scored and total rebounds. He scored 30 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in a 95-88 win against College of St. Elizabeth on Dec. 2. He followed that up on Dec. 9 with 25 points and 13 total rebounds in a close loss at Bryn Athyn College.

These are the fourth Bison of the Month awards for the 2017-18 athletic season. Each month Gallaudet University Athletics Department will recognize two standout student-athletes (one male, one female) from their respective sports.
