WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University Athletics Department has announced the October Bison of the Month recipients presented by Gallaudet Interpreting Services (GIS). Junior forward Brittany Mallach (Milton, Ontario) of the women’s soccer team and senior slot receiver Joell Dixon (Brandywine, Md.) of the Gallaudet University football team were selected for their exceptional performances during the month of October.
Mallach shined bright in the seven games against tough teams in the month of October. She scored a game-winning goal against North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) team Lancaster Bible College. In total, Mallach tallied 17 points, 19 shots, eight goals and started six games. Mallach averaged 2.71 shots, 2.43 points, and 1.14 goals per game.
“Brittany is a hard-working athlete and we can always count on her in the big games. She always stays composed and focused, her character and presence on the field leads the team in close games where pressure starts to build up,” said Gallaudet women’s soccer coach Liza Offreda. “She scored against three tough NEAC teams this month including the game-winner against Lancaster Bible College, a top team in the NEAC. I am proud of her success this month. She deserves this honor with her incredible performance on the field”.
Over four games, Dixon boasted a total of 375 rushing yards, 94 yards on one carry, and two touchdowns. Dixon averaged 27.8 yards per catch with four receptions for 111 yards for four games in the month of October. His total offense average was 93.8 yards per game as he totaled 489 all-purpose yards.
These are the second Bison of the Month awards for the 2017-18 athletic season. Each month Gallaudet University Athletics Department will recognize two standout student-athletes (one male, one female) from their respective sports.
