Gallaudet student-athletes, coaches, managers and cheerleaders graduate on Friday

WASHINGTON - The 148th Gallaudet University commencement on Friday, May 11, celebrated hundreds of students receiving their respective degrees. In the graduating class there are 25 Bison student-athletes, assistant coaches, team managers, cheerleaders and student assistants/interns that received their degrees at the Field House before a packed crowd.

The 25 graduates are confirmed student-athletes, assistant coaches, team managers, cheerleaders and student assistants/interns that were on an active athletic roster/staff during the 2017-18 season and met their degree requirements completed August 2017, December 2017, May 2018 or slated for completion in August 2018. Of the 25 athletic graduates, 10 graduated with honors (Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, Cum Laude). 

This year's 25 athletic undergraduates are split with 14 women and 11 men. Eleven varsity sports had at least one graduate. Women's cross country led the way with five graduates followed by football with four and softball with three. Men's cross country, men's soccer, men's swimming, women's volleyball and cheerleading had two graduates. Baseball, women's soccer, women's swimming and men's track and field had one.

Tony Tatum, former Gallaudet football All-American and current Admissions Counselor, received his masters. This year's Gallaudet Athletics Outstanding Faculty Member Award recipient Stacy Nowak received her Education Specialist (Ed.S.) in Education.

The Gallaudet athletics department also wants to congratulate 53 former student-athletes, assistant coaches, team managers, cheerleaders and student assistants/interns that completed their degrees and graduated on Friday.
