GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – Gallaudet University placed 47 student-athletes on the 2017-18 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Scholar-Athlete list as announced by the conference. Each student-athlete was required to accumulate a 3.4 or higher grade point average for the fall and spring semesters combined.
Gallaudet finished ninth overall among NEAC institutions and six associate members. Keuka College was first with 110 honorees followed by Lancaster Bible College (92), Wells College (79), SUNY Poly (74) and Cazenovia College (64) round out the Top 5.
The NEAC honored a record 890 student-athletes this year from 20 different institutions who represent 36 different states, Puerto Rico and 15 different countries. GU, who completed its eighth year in the NEAC, had honorees hail from 19 different states and four countries. The conference total improved by 84 student-athletes from a year ago.
Three Gallaudet student-athletes earned NEAC Scholar-Athlete honors all four years including Alyssa Barlow (Chandler, Ariz.), Kori Koss (Delavan, Wis.) and Ivy Sahneyah (First Mesa, Ariz.). Since Gallaudet joined the NEAC there have only been 14 Bison to earn NEAC Scholar-Athlete honors all four years.
GU had 14 repeat honorees from last year's NEAC Scholar-Athlete listing and four others earned NEAC Scholar-Athlete honors for a third time.
Gallaudet’s women’s sports had 30 honorees compared to 17 honorees from men’s sports. There were two women that played more than one sport. GU sponsors six women’s sports and five men’s sports that compete in the NEAC.
Softball led the way on the women's side with seven honorees followed by women's soccer (6), women's swimming (6), women's basketball (5), women's cross country (5) and women's volleyball (4).
