DOVER, Del. – The Gallaudet University baseball team was shut out on Tuesday afternoon on the road as the Bison lost 20-0 in seven innings to Wesley College in a Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) game held at Bob Reed Field.
The Bison (0-14, 0-10 CAC) suffered their 14th straight loss to begin the 2010 season. Wesley (9-7, 6-4 CAC) captured its fourth straight win. The Wolverines scored three runs in the first, third and fourth innings before they broke open the game with 11 runs in the fifth. Wesley plated 20 runs on 13 hits.
Freshman Peter Leccese (North Bellmore, N.Y.) suffered his second loss of the season as he pitched three innings where he allowed eight runs on six hits, walked four and struck out two Wolverines. Sophomore pitcher Danny Gabel (Staten Island, N.Y.) relieved Leccese but was hit hard in two innings of work as he surrendered 12 runs on six hits, walked five and had one strikeout. Peter’s twin brother Angelo Leccese (North Bellmore, N.Y.) pitched the final inning.
GU had five hits in the game led by sophomore Ryan Hastings (Cherry Valley, Mass.) who had a double. Wesley’s Tyler Burns (3-for-4) had his second straight multi-home run day as he belted two off the Bison. He also had a double, scored four runs and knocked in six RBI.
GU will complete the three-game season series with Wesley on Saturday as the Bison host the Wolverines at Hoy Field on Saturday, March 27, for a doubleheader with the first game slated to begin at 1 p.m.
