WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Gallaudet University baseball team concluded its Spring Break trip with a tough 9-5 loss against Sewanee-The University of the South at the Chain of Lakes Park Field on Thursday. The Bison finished its week 0-5 during their trip to Florida.
Gallaudet (7-9) had a chance to tie the game in the last inning, for a third straight game, as the Bison loaded the bases but couldn't knot the game up or take the lead. Sewanee (6-8) surrendered three straight hits to Gallaudet before the next three Bison batters struck out to end the game.
Freshman Tyler Crace (Westfield, Ind.) started the game and went five innings where he allowed five runs (one earned) on four hits, walked four and struck out two batters. Junior pitcher Ryan Hastings (Cherry Valley, Mass.) relieved Crace and went two innings, allowed three hits, one earned run and walked one and struck out one. The final two pitchers for the Bison were junior William Chapman (Los Angeles, Calif.) and freshman DJ Travaglini (Plaistow, N.H.).
GU returns home and will host former Capital Athletic Conference foe University of Mary Washington on Sunday, March 20, for a doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m.
