LOS ANGELES – Gallaudet University baseball outfielder William Chapman (Los Angeles, Calif.) was selected to the 2011 Jewish Sports Review All-America first team for college baseball at the Division II, III and NAIA levels. This is Chapman's second award this year as he was selected to the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) all-conference second team. Chapman is the only player from a NEAC school on this All-America team.
Chapman, a transfer from University of California Santa Barbara was second on the team in batting average (.394) in his debut season for the Bison where he started 41 games. In the conference he was second in hit by pitch (12), third in slugging percentage (.543), on base percentage (.490), fourth in batting average (.394), hits (50), RBI (34), doubles (14), fifth in runs scored (34), total bases (69) and tenth in total plate appearances (157). Chapman was ranked nationally for five offensive categories including hit by pitch (70th), on base percentage (90th), hit by pitch per game (114th), doubles (119th) and batting average (138th). The right-hander also took to the mound 13 different times, started nine games, and posted a 2-5 record with a 4.55 ERA. He led the team with 40 strikeouts in 59.1 innings as opponents batted .262 against him.
