WASHINGTON – The Bison baseball team is currently featured in the second episode of Alumni Now, a new program developed by the Office of Alumni Relations at Gallaudet University, and featured in the Then and Now segment. You can watch the episode on the official Gallaudet University YouTube channel here. The program features a panel of alumni that talk about three topics: Around the World, an Alumni Profile and Then and Now.
Dean of Student Affairs and Academic Support Dwight Benedict introduces the Then and Now segment. He takes a look back at Gallaudet baseball since the 1800s and remembers Dummy Hoy, the namesake for Hoy Field.
Alumni Now interviews head baseball coach Curtis Pride, senior shortstop Tommy Barksdale (Brookeville, Md.) and junior catcher Casey Hicks (Henderson, Nev.) about how far the baseball team has come in the last few seasons under Pride. The Bison baseball team had a 16-4 record in 1899, which wasn't broken until two seasons ago when the team went 17-25. Last year, the team went 25-17 to set a new program record for wins in a season.
Coach Pride doesn't only teach his team about baseball, he teaches them the importance of getting good grades and using the resources Gallaudet University offers its students.
