LOS ANGELES – Gallaudet University baseball outfielder William Chapman (Los Angeles, Calif.) was selected to the 2012 Jewish Sports Review All-America first team for college baseball at the Division II, III and NAIA levels for a second year in a row. This is Chapman's third award this year as he was selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Division III South Region third team and the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) all-conference first team. Chapman is the only player from a NEAC school on this All-America team.
Chapman led the NEAC/NAC in doubles (18) this past season and was ranked second in on base percentage (.488), hit by pitch (13), third in batting average (.404), fourth in hits (55), runs (43), fifth in slugging percentage (.574), eighth in total bases (78), 14th in RBI (30) and 15th sacrifice flies (three) in the 41 games he started. His doubles total ranked 25th in the national Division III final rankings. In the field he had a .966 fielding percentage. He also made 11 pitching appearances (six starts) where he went 3-0 against conference opponents.
Chapman helped Gallaudet to its best season ever as the Bison compiled a 25-17 record and 10-4 conference mark. The Bison reached the NEAC West Division championship game but fell to Penn St.-Berks, 13-5. The 25 wins is a new single-season record for the Gallaudet program that dates back to the late 1800s.
