Gallaudet's William Bissell selected to the Team of the Week

MINNEAPOLIS – Gallaudet University junior center fielder William Bissell (Brewer, Maine) was named to the Team of the Week after hitting the game-winning single over nationally ranked Rowan University. This is Bissell's third award this week, being named the Co-North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Baseball Student-Athlete of the Week and the ECAC Division III South Co-Player of the Week. This is Bissell's first Team of the Week honor of his career.

Bissell was a preseason All-American honorable mention selection by, the national website devoted to Division III baseball coverage, for a second year in a row. Last season, he finished the year on the All-South Region First Team.

Bissell held his own against two nationally ranked teams last week. He batted .429 (9-for 21) with two home runs, 10 RBIs, six runs and two stolen bases in six games last week for Gallaudet. Bissell had a game-winning single in the bottom of the 11th inning on Wednesday, March 20, which scored two runs and gave the Bison a 11-10 win over No. 23 Rowan University. The victory marked the first time in program history that a Bison baseball team had a win over a nationally ranked team.

Bissell went 4-for-4 the next day against Rutgers-Camden and hit his second home run of the week, knocked in four runs, one triple, three runs scored and two stolen bases. He also had 13 putouts from the outfield during the spring break trip in Florida, with no errors.

The Team of the Week is's weekly honor roll, in its second season of recognizing the top performers at each of nine positions including three pitchers and one reliever from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors.

Bissell is one of two players from the NEAC named to this week's Team of the Week as Penn St.-Abington third baseman Bill Parave was picked as well.
