CENTERVILLE, Mass. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) named its players of the week for March 24 and Gallaudet University junior William Bissell (Brewer, Maine) received Division III South Baseball Co-Player of the Week honors. The award is the first ECAC honor for Bissell this season, the first for the baseball program. This is Bissell's second honor this week as he was named the NEAC Baseball Student-Athlete of the Week on Monday.
Bissell held his own against two nationally ranked teams last week. He batted .429 (9-for 21) with two home runs, 10 RBIs, six runs and two stolen bases in six games last week for Gallaudet. Bissell had a game-winning single in the bottom of the 11th inning on Wednesday, March 20, which scored two runs and gave the Bison a 11-10 win over No. 23 Rowan University. The victory marked the first time in program history that a Bison baseball team had a win over a nationally ranked team.
Bissell went 4-for-4 the next day against Rutgers-Camden and hit his second home run of the week, knocked in four runs, one triple, three runs scored and two stolen bases. He also had 13 putouts from the outfield during the spring break trip in Florida, with no errors.
Bissell shares this honor with senior Bill Parave from Penn St.- Abington. Parave hit .722 with eight RBIs, five runs scored, three doubles and two stolen bases to lead the Nittany Lions to a 4-1 week.
