NEWBERG, Ore. – For the second time this season, Gallaudet University sophomore Brandon Holsworth (Beal City, Mich.) was one of eight pitchers to earn honorable mention honors in the country as the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) announced its NCAA Division III National Hitter and Pitcher of the Week honors on Thursday.
This is the third honor for Holsworth this week as he was named North Eastern Athletic Conference Baseball Pitching Student-Athlete of the Week on Monday and selected as the ECAC Division III South Co-Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday.
Holsworth threw a complete-game two-hitter against the Penn St.-Harrisburg last Saturday, as he allowed no earned runs and struck out six batters. The win helped secure the NEAC regular-season championship and the right to host this weekend's conference tournament. Holsworth owns a conference best six complete games, and has the second-most wins (five) and strikeouts (47).
SUNY-Old Westbury closer Alex DiSanto was named the NCBWA Pitcher of the Week as he was a perfect 4-for-4 in save opportunities as he tossed six scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and struck out nine.
DeSales University senior first baseman Brian Mauro was selected as the NCBWA Hitter of the Week as he led the Bulldogs to a 3-1 record as he batted .733, with four doubles, two home runs, eight runs, 10 RBIs and a 1.400 slugging percentage.
