CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Gallaudet University's baseball program will experience a postseason game for the first time in its history this Saturday, May 17, when the Bison take on Centenary (N.J.) College in the semifinals of the 2014 ECAC Division III South Baseball Championship.
The Bison (26-17) are the No. 2 seed in the four-team tournament and face No. 3 seed Centenary (19-17) at 1 p.m. at Penn St.-Behrend. The host Nittany Lions (28-14), the No. 1 seed, will face No. 4 seed Bethany College (19-17) in the other semifinal on Saturday. The two semifinal winners will advance to Sunday's championship at 1 p.m. at Behrend Diamond.
Gallaudet set a program record with 26 wins and 43 games played this season and were regular season co-champions of the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC). The Bison posted a 12-6 NEAC record during the regular season. GU went 1-2 in the NEAC tournament last weekend at Hoy Field and were not selected as one of the 56 teams for the 2014 NCAA Division III baseball tournament. GU baseball, formed in 1895, has never made a NCAA appearance.
Fans traveling to Erie, Pa., to watch the ECAC South Baseball Championship will not have to worry about tickets, as there is free admission to all three games. Penn St.-Behrend will supply live stats and live video of all three games here: http://livestats.prestosports.com/behrend/.
