GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its student-athlete of the week awards for March 31 and Gallaudet University sophomore pitcher Danny O'Donnell (Olney, Md.) was selected as the NEAC Baseball Co-Pitcher of the Week. This marks O'Donnell's second straight NEAC Pitcher of the Week honor.
After also being named the Division III national pitcher of the week last week, the 6-foot-3 right-hander did not disappoint in his return to the mound on a frigid and rainy Sunday afternoon. O'Donnell (4-1) tossed seven shutout innings as he struck out a career-best nine batters, walked none to earn his fourth win in an 11-1 nine-inning conference victory over Cazenovia College at Hoy Field.
O'Donnell has now given up just one earned run in his past 37 innings of work and leads the NEAC in wins (four), strikeouts (38) and ERA (0.64).
Jeff Davis of the Penn St.-Abington Nittany Lions was the other Co-Pitcher of the Week as he helped to cool off the hot bats of No. 8 Rowan University as he logged six and two-thirds innings and allowed three runs (one earned) as he gave up 10 hits and struck out two batters. The Nittany Lions won the game 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth.
This marks the sixth NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week honors for the Bison this season. O'Donnell was also honored for the week of March 24. Senior catcher Casey Hicks (Henderson, Nev.) has been honored twice (March 3, March 10) as well as senior pitcher Brandon Holsworth (Beal City, Mich.), who was picked the same weeks as Hicks.
