LANCASTER, Pa. – The Gallaudet University baseball team won its North Eastern Atlantic Conference (NEAC) doubleheader against Lancaster Bible College on Sunday by winning the first game, 11-1, and needing extra innings to win 10-9 in 10 innings in the second game.
GU starting pitcher Brandon Holsworth (Beal City, Mich.) faced 27 batters in the first game, allowing only three hits, one run, one walk, and one home run while striking out six.
Gallaudet (16-9, 4-1 NEAC) had three separate players hit home runs off two Lancaster Bible pitchers as the Bison dominated the first game. Senior third baseman Chris Guinn (McLoud, Okla.) went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, two runs and two RBI. Freshman first baseman Justin Strong (Charlotte, N.C.) went 2-for-5, with a three-run home run, one run and two RBI. Senior outfielder William Bissell (Brewer, Maine) went 2-for-5, hitting a two-run home run with two runs and two RBI.
Lancaster Bible (7-10, 2-4 NEAC) came back fighting in the second game as it tied the game in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings. The Chargers went up 7-2 at the end of the third but the Bison charged back in the fifth inning scoring six runs. Senior outfielder Marcus Smith (Baltimore, Md.) scored the eventual game-winning run in the 10th inning when freshman Zack Crawford (Newnan, Ga.) hit a sacrifice fly to right field.
Senior catcher Casey Hicks (Henderson, Nev.) went 2-for-3, with both of his hits being home runs as he racked up four RBI, three walks and two runs. Strong hit a three-run home run, his second on the day, going 1-for-4 with one run and three RBI.
The Bison will continue on the road as they head to SUNYIT for a NEAC three-game series set to begin with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 12, at 1 p.m.
