Offense erupts for 13 runs as Holsworth shuts down SUNYIT

MARCY, N.Y. – Junior Brandon Holsworth (Beal City, Mich.) took to the hill Sunday in a big North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) baseball game for Gallaudet University on the road against SUNYIT at Peter A. Spina Field. Holsworth didn't disappoint as he pitched eight scoreless innings as the Bison offense erupted for 13 runs to win 13-0 and take the weekend series from the Wildcats (10-10, 5-2 NEAC).

Gallaudet (19-10, 7-2 NEAC) scored two runs in the top of the third inning and broke open the game, the next inning, with five runs. The Bison went on to tack on two runs in the sixth and four insurance runs in the eighth.

Senior outfielder William Bissell (Brewer, Maine) led the offense as he went 3-for-6 at the plate, scored four runs, one triple, drove in two runs and stole a base. Fellow senior Casey Hicks (Henderson, Nev.) went 2-for-2, scored twice, two RBI and one walk. Senior second baseman JJ Klein (Cincinnati, Ohio) went 3-for-5, three runs, double, RBI and one walk and freshman first baseman Justin Strong (Charlotte, N.C.) was 2-for-5, one run, three RBI in the win.

Holsworth (7-1) scattered four hits over eight frames, walked one and struck out seven in the win. Ryan Dungey (2-2) took the loss as he lasted four innings as he allowed seven runs (two earned) on seven hits, three walks and three strikeouts.

GU will face another tough task this week with a three-game NEAC series at Penn St.-Berks (10-11, 6-1 NEAC) starting on Friday, April 18, with one game at 3 p.m.
