GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conferece (NEAC) has announced its student-athlete of the week awards for Feb. 29 and Gallaudet University junior third baseman Zack Crawford (Newnan, Ga.) was chosen as the NEAC Baseball Player of the Week and junior Ian Evans (Murphy, N.C.) was selected as the NEAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
Crawford had a big weekend during a pair of back-to-back doubleheaders, as he batted .615 after racking up eight hits on 13 plate appearances to go with eight runs scored, three RBI, three triples and four walks drawn. He had three hits in each game of a doubleheader sweep over the University of Valley Forge on Sat., Feb. 27, including two extra base hits in addition to totaling six runs scored, three RBIs and two walks. He then scored a run and had a double in each game of a doubleheader with Muhlenberg College the next day, giving him a double in three straight games and extending his overall hitting streak to five games that started with a perfect 3-for-3 performance against Penn St.-Harrisburg on Feb. 21. Crawford has now begun the season batting .458 through seven games for the Bison.
Evans tossed a gem during a 10-0 win over the University of Valley Forge on Feb. 27, as the lefty struck out a career-high 12 batters while giving up just two hits with no walks across seven innings to record the complete-game victory. Evans took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before it was broken up by a two-out single, with the other hit allowed also only being a single later in the seventh. Evans is now sporting a 1.35 earned run average (ERA) through three appearances and 13.1 innings pitched on the season thus far for the Bison.
This marks the first NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week honors for the duo in their career and the first for the Bison this season.
