GU's Upton selected as the NEAC Baseball Player of the Week

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conferece (NEAC) has announced its student-athlete of the week awards for March 7 and Gallaudet University freshman shortstop Cameron Upton (Vicksburg, Miss.) was chosen as the NEAC Baseball Player of the Week for his performance in four games this past week.

The freshman had at least one hit in all four Bison contests last week, including three that featured a double in an 11-8 victory over Summit University last Saturday where he also drove in three runs and scored two more. That would marked his second double on the week and he also drew two walks en route to posting a batting average of .429 and an on-base percentage of .500 after producing six hits on 14 plate appearances for the week. He also recorded 10 putouts and 10 assists in 21 chances from the shortstop position, while also helping turn two double plays on the week.  Upton is now tied for the conference lead in RBI with eight on the year thus far.

Junior Sawyer Haney of SUNY Poly was selected as NEAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

This marks the first NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week honors for Upton in his career and the third overall for the Bison this season.

The Bison baseball squad will next travel to Florida for six games at the RussMatt Invitational during Spring Break, starting with a game against Suffolk University this Saturday, March 12, at 6:30 p.m.
