Bison unable to contain Thoroughbreds

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Gallaudet University baseball team fell to Skidmore College here Thursday, 19-9, in the fourth game of their five-game Florida Spring Break trip. 

Gallaudet, led by senior pitcher Blake Phillips (Dalton, Ga.), looked strong defensively and kept Skidmore off of the scoreboard for the first three innings.

The Bison were able to take a 1-0 lead in the second when sophomore Cameron Upton (Vicksburg, Miss.) scored off a sacrifice fly.

Thoroghbreds broke out in the fourth inning with 10 runs to take a 10-1 lead. Skidmore went on to cushion its lead as it scored two runs in the fifth, six in the sixth and one in the seventh.

After GU lost the lead in the fourth inning the Bison continued to battle. Although they scored four runs in the sixth, one in the seventh and three in the eighth they were unable to overtake the surging Thoroughbreds.

  • Phillips had three strikeouts
  • Seven different players scored for the Bison

Gallaudet will play its final game of their Florida Spring Break trip on Friday, March 17, when they take on Old Westbury at 9 a.m.
