DALLAS – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its weekly NCAA Division III National Players of the Week awards for May 9 and Gallaudet University junior infielder Cameron Upton (Vicksburg, Miss.) was selected as National Hitter of the Week for the first time in his career.
Upton is the second Gallaudet batter to earn NCBWA National Hitter of the Week honors in program history as he joins Casey Hicks (April 10, 2014). GU has had one NCBWA Division III National Pitcher of the Week in Danny O'Donnell on March 27, 2014.
This is Upton's fourth award this week after he claimed NEAC Baseball Player of the Week on Monday, named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week on Tuesday and named to the All-NEAC First Team on Wednesday.
Upton posted a .889 batting average as he went 16-for-18 in four conference road games last weekend as GU posted a 3-1 record to conclude the 2018 season. The junior infielder hit for the cycle in his final game of the season against SUNY Cobleskill. He went 6-for-7 against the Fighting Tigers in a 23-14 victory.
