GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its student-athlete of the week awards for March 5 and Gallaudet University senior Kyle Gumm (Dallas, Texas) was selected as the NEAC Baseball Player of the Week.
Gumm posted a .429 batting average through eight games to begin the 2018 season. The senior outfielder, led the Bison with 11 runs and swiped seven bases. He had 12 hits, which included three doubles and one triple, drove in three runs and drew five walks. Gumm closed out the week going 3-for-4 in back-to-back games last Saturday against Dean College. In addition to his performance at the plate, Gumm had 16 putouts and two assists in the field with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
Lancaster Bible College senior Zack Leonard was named the NEAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Leonard began the season with a pair of terrific outings despite not earning a decision in either game. He tossed 6 2/3 innings of shutout ball at No. 12 ranked Shenandoah, allowing six hits and striking out five. Leonard had another solid outing at Hood on Feb. 27, allowing two hits and two runs, while striking out three in 4 1/3 innings of work. On the week, Leonard posted a 1.64 ERA with eight strikeouts.
This marks the first NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week honor for the Bison this season and Gumm's first honor of his career.
