MINNEAPOLIS – Gallaudet University senior shortstop Cameron Upton (Vicksburg, Miss.) was named to the 2019 All-South region third team as announced by the national website that covers NCAA Division III baseball. Upton was named to the all-conference first team by the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) earlier this month for the second straight year.

Upton, a four-time all-conference player, lands on the All-Region teams for the second time in his career. The crafty infielder was named to the second team last season at second base.

Upton ranks 17th in NCAA Division III for batting average (.440) and 40th in on base percentage (.509). He finished the season second in the NEAC for hits (62), third in stolen bases (17), fourth in batting average (.440), sixth in on base percentage (.509), seventh in total bases (77), 11th in triples (two) and slugging percentage (.546). He was named NEAC Baseball Player of the Week (Feb. 25) and selected to the Team of the Week (Feb. 19) this season. Upton finished his career with a new school record in hits (218).

Upton is the only NEAC player on the All-South region teams. The NEAC had several selection on other regions' teams. Penn St.-Berks shortstop Toby Welk (first team) was named the Mid-Atlantic region Player of the Year while Lancaster Bible College outfielder Will Welsh was picked to the second team for a second straight year. In the All-New York region, Keuka College shortstop Brooks Vertoske was picked to the second team.

Gallaudet now has eight All-Region honors in program history (first team: two, second team: three, third team: three). Upton joins William Bissell and Brandon Holsworth as the only two-time honorees from GU.

This is the eighth year has compiled all-region teams. Players were nominated and by sports information directors (SIDs) at the various schools. Over 800 players were nominated for the eight different regions (Central, Mid-Atlantic, Mideast, Midwest, New England, New York, South, West). The ballots were made available to SIDs and the staff and contributors to vote for a predetermined number of players in their respective region.

Note: National rankings are through May 20, NEAC rankings are final
