COBLESKILL, N.Y. - The Gallaudet University baseball team dropped the third and final game of its series with SUNY Cobleskill, 7-3, here Sunday afternoon at Fighting Tiger Field.
Gallaudet (9-24, 2-10 NEAC) and SUNY Cobleskill (12-15, 7-5 NEAC) were supposed to play the third game of the series yesterday but things got postponed until Easter Sunday due to rain.
The Fighting Tigers pushed across four runs in the bottom of the second inning and added an additional run in the fifth and two runs in the seventh as the host built a 7-0 lead.
Gallaudet got on the scoreboard with two runs in the eighth and plated an additional run in the ninth.
Junior Winston Lane III (Brooklyn Center, Minn.) doubled to lead off the the two-run eighth. Junior Austin Altman (Irvine, Calif.) singled home Lane to tally GU's first run. Cobleskill reliever Mitchell Holmes walked the next three batters, including walking in a second run before he got the final two outs in the frame.
In the ninth, senior Cameron Upton (Vicksburg, Miss.) walked, moved up on a passed ball before he stole third. Two batters later, Upton scored on a Matt Scuderi (Jensen Beach, Fla.) ground out to cut the Fighting Tigers' lead to four, 7-3. Altman followed with a single and sophomore Darren Drolsbaugh (Lansdale, Pa.) got hit by the pitch with two outs. The game ended when Drolsbaugh got picked off at first base for the third and final out.
Freshman Josh Dugan (San Antonio, Texas) took the loss on the mound as he threw his first complete game. Dugan (0-5) surrendered seven runs (three earned) on nine hits, four walks and struck out five in eight innings pitched, the longest outing in his Bison career.
SUNY Cobleskill starting pitcher Devin Lewis (2-5) threw seven scoreless innings where he gave up six hits, two walks and struck out seven batters. Holmes allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits, four walks and struck out two in the final two innings.
Gallaudet will next host Penn College (7-18, 4-5 NEAC) in a three-game home conference series starting on Saturday, April 27, at noon.
