GU drops first game of the Bison Baseball Classic to Stevenson

WASHINGTON - The Bison Baseball Classic got underway here Friday at Hoy Field as Gallaudet University hosted Stevenson University.

Gallaudet (2-1) dropped the non-conference contest 14-3 to the visiting Mustangs (3-1).

Freshman pitcher Shea Sliva-Wynne (Richmond, Texas) took the loss as he allowed eight runs (five earned) on six hits, five walks and two strikeouts.

Stevenson scored twice in the second and four times in the third to take an early 6-1 lead. Gallaudet battled back in the bottom of the third when Austin Sliva-Wynne (Richmond, Texas) grounded out to plate senior Cameron Upton (Vicksburg, Miss.), who doubled to lead off the inning.

GU added a third run in the bottom of the sixth on another ground-out.

The Mustangs added three runs in the seventh and ninth innings.

Stevenson won the second game, 5-1, over Marymount (Va.) University.

The second day of the Bison Baseball Classic has been postponed due to rain, so no games on Saturday, Feb. 23. The action picks back up on Sunday, Feb. 24, with two games. Washington College will take on Marymount (Va.) University at 10 a.m. The Bison will go up against Washington College in the second game at 2 p.m.
