WHITINGHAM, Vt. – The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) named its players of the week for October 4 and Gallaudet University kicker/punter Justin Wilson (Carmichael, Calif.) was named Special Teams Player of the Week after he helped the Bison win their first conference game last Saturday with a 13-6 road win over Husson University. This is the first ECFC Player of the Week award for Gallaudet this season and the fourth time Wilson has earned this honor in two years.
Wilson accounted for seven of Gallaudet's points in the ECFC win over Husson. He booted two field goals from 32 and 37 yards, respectively, and connected on his only extra-point attempt. Wilson also handled the kickoff and punting duties for the Buff and Blue (3-2, 1-1 ECFC). He averaged 61 yards per kickoff as he made four kicks for 244 yards. The senior kicker also punted four times for 143 yards (35.8 yards average per punt) with a long of 44 yards and two punts inside the 20-yard line. Wilson has been with the team for the past two games after he left the team prior to the first game of the season.
The other ECFC weekly honors for October 4 were awarded to Mount Ida junior running back Johrone Bunch and Castleton State sophomore quarterback Shane Brozowski who shared Offensive Player of the Week honors. Bunch ran for 340 yards and three touchdowns while Brozowski passed for 461 yards and ran for 97 yards and combined for four touchdowns as the Spartans won 38-34. SUNY Maritime sophomore defensive back Pat Lasher (Defensive Player of the Week) and Castleton State freshman wide receiver Michael Patterson (Rookie of the Week) were the other honorees.
Gallaudet will next go up against defending ECFC champion Norwich University when the Bison travel to face the Cadets on Saturday, October 9, for a 2 p.m. game.
