AKRON, Ohio – The 2013 Beyond Sports Network (BSN) Collegiate Showcase begins Friday as the three-day event will feature some of the best football players from the FCS, Division II, III and NAIA ranks. Gallaudet University senior cornerback Tony Tatum (Gardendale, Ala.) is one of the few from Division III that will participate in the testing combine, position drills, 7-on-7 drills and Sunday's All-Star game at the University of Akron.
Invited players get the chance to perform in front of general managers, scouts and representatives from the National Football League (NFL), Canadian Football League (CFL), Arena Football League (AFL), among other professional football leagues.
BSN will stream all of the workouts, drills and the All-Star game online here. The game will take place Sunday, March 10, at 11 a.m.
Optimum Scouting, an online scouting website, listed Tatum as the No. 8 overall prospect at this year's BSN Collegiate Showcase.
Tatum, who has been working out in his home state of Alabama, participated in University of Alabama-Birmingham's (UAB) Pro Day this past Monday, March 4.
Tatum helped to lead Gallaudet to a 7-3 record, 5-2 mark in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC). Tatum earned dozens of honors including being named a D3football.com All-American fourth team defense, BSN All-America first team, ECFC Defensive Player of the Year, ECFC Special Teams Player of the Year, two-time All-ECFC honoree to name a few.
Though the ball was hardly thrown in his direction, Tatum finished the season with six interceptions, which tied him at No. 25 in the country for Division III. He scored four touchdowns, including two on special teams, one on offense and one on defense. Tatum added 24 total tackles and a forced fumble and his 15.14-yard punt return average was good for sixth in the country.
