GU's BJ Flores wins his second ECFC Rookie of the Week award

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference named its players of the week for Nov. 5 and Gallaudet University freshman BJ Flores (Raymondville, Texas) received Rookie of the Week honors. The award is the running back's second of the season and comes on the heels of his dominant performance in Gallaudet's hard fought 29-22 victory over Mount Ida College, its first over the Mustangs in program history. Flores was last recognized by the conference on Sept. 10.

After the visiting Mustangs scored two touchdowns within a three-minute span during the third quarter, a 22-0 Gallaudet lead quickly became a 22-14 one possession game. On Gallaudet's ensuing drive, head coach Chuck Goldstein leaned heavily on Flores and the Bison rushing attack. Flores responded with four rushes of five or more yards, including a 38-yard scamper into the end zone that extended the Bison's lead and ultimately put the game out of reach. Flores finished the game with 15 rushes for 95 yards (6.3 yards per carry) and the 38-yard touchdown was the longest run of his career.

Castleton State College junior wide receiver Brandon Boyle was named Offensive Player of the Week after catching nine passes for 221 yards and tying a career-high with three touchdowns in the Spartans 34-14 victory over Husson University. Teammate Dave Fox, kicker for the Spartans, was named Special Teams Player of the Week as he nailed two field goals and hit on all four of his extra points in the win. Becker College senior defensive back Christopher McCarthy was named ECFC Defensive Player of the Week for amassing 14 tackles, two sacks, and three tackles for a loss of 22 yards in the Hawks' 27-7 victory over Anna Maria College.

The Bison have now won 10 ECFC Player of the Week awards on the season. Freshman quarterback Todd Bonheyo (Frederick, Md.) has been named the conference rookie of the week on three different occassions (Oct. 1, 8, 22) while senior cornerback Tony Tatum (Gardendale, Ala.) has earned two special team honors (Sept. 24, Oct. 15), fellow senior defensive lineman Jared Pearce (Reno, Nev.) was honored on Sept. 24, junior defensive lineman Adham Talaat (Springfield, Va.) on Oct. 29 and junior Nick Elstad (Colorado Springs, Colo.) on Oct. 1.

Gallaudet will look to add to its conference player of the week total in its next game against SUNY Maritime on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 1 p.m.
