Papacek earns his first ECFC Special Teams Player of the Week award

WASHINGTON – The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) named its players of the week for Nov. 4 and Gallaudet University freshman running back Chris Papacek (Cuero, Texas) was tabbed with the Special Teams Player of the Week honor for his last second defensive effort last Saturday that led Gallaudet to a thrilling 40-34 win over Becker College.

Papacek made not one but two blocks against Becker College as the Bison won, 40-34, in dramatic fashion on the road to remain perfect on the season (8-0, 5-0 ECFC). Papacek blocked Dejahn Dawkins' point after attempt after the Hawks scored a touchdown four minutes into the game. It would be Papacek's block at the end of the game that sparked Gallaudet's miracle win. Dawkins lined up for a 31-yard field goal with two seconds left in regulation and the game tied 34-34. Papacek came off the right edge, unblocked, and leaped and blocked the kick. The block sent the ball bouncing backwards where GU senior Ryan Bonheyo (Frederick, Md.) scooped up the loose ball, in stride, as he ran 79 yards to the end zone for the touchdown with no time left giving Gallaudet the victory.

Papacek leads the Bison in blocks with three on the season. He has also recorded two tackles, 18 passing yards and 108 rushing yards through eight games.

Senior running back Robert Small of Anna Maria College earned Offensive Player of the Week honors for rushing 225 yards and scoring three touchdowns in the AMCATS victory over Castleton State College. Junior defensive back Dane Pallotto of Norwich University took home Defensive Player of the Week honors after recording three interceptions in the win against Mount Ida College. Mount Ida freshman linebacker D'Andre Smith was named Rookie of the Week after breaking up three passes and recording nine tackles in the game.

Gallaudet has a chance to win the ECFC title on Saturday, Nov. 9, at home against Anna Maria at noon. The Bison will place their 10-game winning streak, dating back to last year, on the line on Senior Day.
