Adham Talaat makes history at Gallaudet's first NFL Pro Day

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University football team hosted its first National Football League (NFL) Pro Day at the Field House and Hotchkiss Field on Wednesday. Former Bison defensive end Adham Talaat (Springfield, Va.) worked out in front of six NFL team scouts and media. Talaat's height, weight, hand, armspan, and reach were all measured prior to the testing. Once completed, Talaat was tested on his vertical jump, bench press, broad jump, 40-yard dash, L-drill, 5-10-5 shuttle and 60-yard shuttle. The testing concluded with Talaat doing  position specific drills with the scouts.

"This was a historic day for the Gallaudet University athletic department. The hard work and dedication Talaat has committed to Gallaudet is paying off," said Gallaudet coach Chuck Goldstein. "I am just glad I was able to share this experience with Talaat and am extremely happy that everyone could come out and enjoy it."

Members of the Gallaudet community came out to cheer on and support Talaat during his historic day, along with members of the media from several local television stations. The NFL teams represented on Talaat's Pro Day were the Indianapolis Colts, Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers, defending Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks, Tennessee Titans and Washington Redskins.

"I am very pleased with my performance and from the positive feedback I received from my agents and the scounts in attendance," said Talaat. "I am extremely grateful for everyone that has helped make this possible and for the outpouring of support and well wishes I have received via text messages, on social media and in-person. I want to extend a special thank you to everyone at Gallaudet, the coaching staff, my teammates, my teachers, the athletic training staff, the athletic department and the entire Gallaudet community."

Talaat had been preparing for his Pro Day the past three months at the TEST Parisi Football Academy in N.J.

"I am so proud to be able to represent Gallaudet and the deaf community at such a high level and I am looking forward to what the future brings," added Talaat.

The 2014 NFL Draft will run from May 8-10. No Gallaudet student-athlete has ever been drafted by a NFL team.
