Gallaudet's Flores, Jones earn ECFC Player of the Week honors

WASHINGTON- The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) announced its weekly honors for the week of Oct. 6 and two Gallaudet Bison were recognized for their outstanding performances. Junior fullback and co-captain BJ Flores (Raymondville, Texas) and sophomore running back David Jones (Washington, D.C.) were awarded Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, as they helped the Bison defeat Anna Maria College, 53-26 last Saturday. This is the first award for either player this season and also the first awards for the team this season.

Flores scored on a 10-yard run in the first quarter and ended the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 54-yard touchdown run.

Jones had a breakout game with 150 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns. He ran the ball six times and gained a career best 101 yards and scored a touchdown. He also led the team with two receptions for a gain of 49 yards (long of 34) and one touchdown. Jones broke off a season long 42-yard run in the fourth quarter for his second touchdown in the game as GU led 47-26. He caught a 15-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter as GU built a 32-6 lead and led 38-14 at the half. Jones, in his first-year with GU, also returned three kickoffs for 49 yards (16.3 yards per return average).

Castleton College linebacker Darren Callan was named ECFC Defensive Player of the Week as he made eight tackles (three for a loss and two sacks), two pass break ups and an interception in the 24-0 shutout of Becker College. Sophomore kicker and linebacker Tyler Rodgers of Mount Ida College was selected for Special Teams Player of the Week after running in a fake field goal for a touchdown.
