Former Bison suits up for Finland football team

JYVASKYLA, Finland – Former Gallaudet University football standout AJ McCrea (Kennesaw, Ga.) took his talents across the pond to Finland where he is playing linebacker for the Jyväskylän Jaguaarit this summer.

"Playing overseas in Finland has provided me with the opportunity to do what I love for a living while exploring and integrating myself into a different culture," said McCrea. "I'm having the time of my life in Finland!"

McCrea was one of six team captains for the Gallaudet football team last season. In seven games started the defensive back made 27 tackles, 6.5 tackles for a loss of 16 yards and had four pass break-ups while covering some of the top receivers in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC). McCrea is a two-time All-ECFC defense second team selection.

"We are excited for AJ and his chance to continue playing football in Finland. He was quite the team leader for us and I am sure this experience will be life-changing for him," said Gallaudet head football coach Chuck Goldstein.

McCrea wear No. 7 for the Jaguaarit (Jaguars) and currently lives in Keltinmäki, Finland. The Jaguaarit's (1-1) next game is against the Kouvola Indians (1-1) this Sunday, June 14. The team plays nine regular-season games before playoffs take place in the end of August.
